With Gratitude: Honoring LCMSD Staff Who Inspire Us

    Dear LCMSD Community,

At LCMSD, we believe in celebrating the incredible people who make our learning community an amazing place to learn and grow. As we head into Thanksgiving break, it's a fitting time to express our sincere gratitude for our dedicated staff, supportive families, and inspiring students. Together, you help create a school district where everyone can thrive.

As part of LCMSD's Vision 2036, staff members were given the opportunity to recognize a colleague who exemplifies one of the Adult Portrait elements in their daily work. One staff member was selected to be recognized for each element, and was awarded with a gift donated by the PTO/As and SPARK at their school site staff meetings, were featured on the LCMSD social media accounts, and were celebrated during the November 19, 2025 Board Meeting. This recognition not only honors their impact, it helps others know who to turn to when growing in that specific area.

The following are the Adult Portrait elements and the staff members who were honored. Congratulations!

    Danielle O'Reilly

Critically Thinking & Creative Educator: Demonstrates innovation, creativity and resilience to continually adapt and embrace new/changing technologies, circumstances and teaching methodologies.

Equity-Focused Change Agent: Champions equity and inclusion to create a just, compassionate, and responsive school community.

Dakota's nominator described her as someone whose “leadership inspires others to reflect, grow, and join her in building a truly inclusive community.”

    Christian Chinchilla

Emotionally & Socially Aware Leader:  Models emotional awareness, empathy, and cultural responsiveness to cultivate belonging and collaboration.

Christian's nominator remarked, “He routinely goes above and beyond by being solutions oriented and always willing to help for the betterment of our students.”

    Natasha Griffin

Flexible Collaborator:  Facilitates a culture of inquiry to promote curiosity, a deeper understanding of subjects, and appreciation for different perspectives.

Natasha's nominator noted, “Her commitment to collaboration has led to strong connections and extraordinary achievement.”

    Karina Hernandez

Caring, Kind, & Connected Adult: Demonstrates care, kindness and connection to inspire belief, inclusion, and emotional well-being.

Karina's nominator shared, “Her support increases feelings of belonging for students and families and ensures we are meeting the needs of our students of focus.”

    Lyn Everly

Impactful & Effective Communicator: Demonstrates emotional intelligence, empathy, and effective communication to inspire, connect, and guide growth.

    PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

“As we express our gratitude, we must never forget that the highest appreciation is not to utter the words but to live by them.”

    -John F. Kennedy

As we prepare for this Thanksgiving break let’s remind ourselves to be grateful for what we have and to be present for the moments we have together. We are grateful for your partnership in your child’s educational journey and the opportunity to be a part of their adolescent experience in middle school. We wish all our Hall community a wonderful upcoming break and we will see you in December!

Congrats on an AMAZING season!! Thank you Mr. Rembrandt & Mr. Corbolotti!!

Continuing the appreciation, I want to thank our Flag Football coaches, Mr. Rembrandt and Mr. Corbolotti, for our incredible season!! Thank you to Mr. Garrow for your time with our 6th grade girls volleyball team and a fabulous season as well. We will celebrate all our student athletes this week and look forward to our upcoming basketball season. For information about tryouts this week, please see below.

Our Cougar family is growing and Mr. Blatt is up next! We are preparing to welcome Marin retired administrators Mr. David Sondeheim and Ms. Nancy Neu, former RHS principals, as they take over for the duration of Mr. Blatt’s leave. We are looking forward to his future cub arrival and wish the Blatt family all the best!! In his absence please feel free to contact either administrator using this email lcmsdtempadmin@lcmschools.org for any questions, support or follow up.

This week we will have our first Spirit Week and hope to see all Cougars participate!! We will also be celebrating our students and hear messages from current Cougars as we close out Trimester 1. Students will continue signing up to support our school-wide Adopt-a-Family program in Period 1 classes which supports local families in need this holiday season. Last, we will kick off transition activities for our rising 5th grade families on Thursday with our Hear it From Hall event! It is going to be an action packed week and leads to our early dismissal on Friday, November 21 at 1:30 pm to start the break.

Again, we wish you and your families a wonderful Thanksgiving break and hope you can share your presence and gratitude with loved ones!

    Wishing you a beautiful Sunday,
Dr. Toni Chavez and Hall Staff

    SCHOOL  NEWS

GRADING AT HALL MIDDLE SCHOOL Watch this short (4 minute video) for information on how to access Aeries (our student information system) to view student grades and other important information.

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP & TECHNOLOGY EXPECTATIONS at the beginning of the school year, school staff presented on these topics to students. We have created a recording of this presentation for students and parents to review. It will also be linked on the Hall Website. Please watch and discuss with your children.

CHROMEBOOK  Please remind your child to charge their Chromebook every night. If your child needs to borrow a Chromebook, they can get one from the office.  The office has a limited supply of loaners and every third loaner results in a detention.

VISITORS/VOLUNTEERS Check in at the front office and provide a driver's license. Please note we are a closed-campus school. Only students, staff, and approved visitors may be on campus from 7:45am until 3:30pm.  For more information on how to become a volunteer, refer to our Hall volunteer procedures.

ATTENDANCE  If your child will be absent, email hallabsentee@lcmschools.org or call (415) 927-6956 by 8:30 am AND provide the reason for the absence. Absences are marked as unexcused when they are not reported or when a reason isn’t shared.

*** Want a seamless pick-up? Consult the Hall Bell Schedule and make an effort to pick-up during a passing period. If you must pick up at the lunch hour, it’s highly recommended you do so before lunch begins as it can take extra time to locate students in the recess yard.

    GRADE 8 FAMILIES

Redwood High School Registration - Just as we’re settling into the current school year, it’s already time to start thinking about registration for the 2026–27 school year—time really does fly! We’ve begun receiving calls from families with questions about high school registration. To help ease any concerns, please share the attached letter with your 8th-grade families.

The letter is also available on the Redwood homepage under Announcements: https://redwood.tamdistrict.org/

PROJECTILES IN CLASS ARE NOT ALLOWED We are noticing an uptick in students creating devices that are designed to shoot sharp objects into the ceiling or around the classroom. We believe this may be a trend that students are learning from social media. This is dangerous and a class disruption. Teachers will be addressing this behavior with consequences. Please consider discussing this with your child and reiterating that this behavior is not allowed.

Habitat Landscape Tour and Scavenger Hunt RESCHEDULED

Last Wednesday's rain hasn't dampened our excitement over the new habitat landscape at the front of Hall! Students, please join Refugia Marin after school next Wednesday, November 19th for a rescheduled Habitat Landscape Tour and Scavenger Hunt. Cat Wolfers, NOAA Ocean Guardian Club leader at Neil Cummins and former Hall parent, and Sophie Kishimoto, recent Environmental Studies graduate from USF, will lead tours of the site and host an ecosystem scavenger hunt (with prizes)! We will meet outside Room 302/303 after school and then walk to the site together for a tour and eco hunt. RSVP to catherine@refugiamarin.org is not necessary, but it sure helps with our headcount. We'll have another after school event for students on Wednesday 12/10, and then an official ribbon cutting ceremony for all in early spring 2026. We hope to see you there!

FORGET SOMETHING AT HOME? We understand things get left behind. If your child forgets their lunch, PE uniform, or something for an after-school activity, please drop it off on the white cart outside the office in a clearly labeled bag. Remind your child to check the cart and their school email for messages. For valuable items like electronics or band equipment, please bring them directly to the office. Large sports equipment should be put in the sports equipment cage next to the lost and found.

Also, no DoorDash, Grubhub, or any food deliveries are allowed on campus.  Thank you for your cooperation

    SPORTS

LCMSD Board Appoints New Trustee: Jessica Dinday

    Dear LCMSD Community,

Last night, the LCMSD Board appointed and swore in Jessica Dinday as the next Trustee to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Eric Schmautz. We were fortunate to have four highly qualified applicants, each bringing unique strengths, experiences, and a strong commitment to LCMSD. We sincerely appreciate the engagement of our community throughout this process.

As a parent who has had children attend all three LCMSD schools, Jessica brings a deeply rooted and well-rounded perspective to the Board. She has been an active and engaged volunteer in our district for many years, serving as PTO Co-President at Neil Cummins, helping lead major community-building initiatives, and contributing to districtwide collaboration efforts. Jessica also currently serves on the Hall Middle School Site Council, adding valuable school-level perspective to her work. Professionally, she brings extensive experience as a therapist, clinical supervisor, and program manager supporting children and families - expertise that aligns closely with our district’s commitment to student well-being, belonging, and academic success.

Jessica joins the Board with a strong history of partnership, service, and student-centered leadership. Congratulations Jessica!

    PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

October is a wrap! We are moving into November with no shortage of action. Please read this bulletin thoroughly as there are many events that are upcoming. Our new habitat in front of Hall will be highlighted this week with a scavenger hunt and basketball tryouts are coming just to name a few. Please see the notice about Terrace Metrics in our counseling corner as well as dates are approaching.

SPARK felt the love this week and we are so grateful for your support, it means so much to have community support to run programs such as Leadership, STEM and Art at Hall for our Cougars. Thank you for helping SPARK hit their goal!!

Our Cross Country runners wrapped up an incredible season and we are so proud of you!! Flag football will move into the playoffs this week to see about another championship season! Girls volleyball will be taking on Miller Creek tomorrow and we are looking forward to celebrating all our student athletes soon!

Hope you enjoyed the extra hour and wishing you all a beautiful Sunday,
Dr. Toni Chavez & Hall Staff

    SCHOOL  NEWS

SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL will meet on Monday 11/4 in the Hall Library 3:30-4:30pm. The agenda has been posted on the school website and in the window of the main office.

HABITAT LANDSCAPE TOUR AND SCAVENGER HUNT, Wednesday 11/5/25 from 2-2:45 pm. Curious to see up close the new habitat landscape at the front of Hall? Students, please join Refugia Marin after school on Wednesday for the first of three kick-off events to celebrate the new green space. We will meet light rain or shine after school outside room 302/303 across from the bus stop path and then walk to the site together for a tour and eco hunt. RSVP to catherine@refugiamarin.org is not necessary, but it sure helps with our headcount. We'll have two more after school events for students on Wednesday 11/19 and 12/10, and then an official ribbon cutting ceremony for all in early spring 2026. We hope to see you there!

    Native Habitat Landscape Update

The wait is almost over! Trees, plants, irrigation, mulch, and now benches are all installed at the front of school. Once the final layer of GraniteCrete paving is spread at the end of the month, the pathway will open and you'll be able to experience up close the landscape come alive. We're already noticing hummingbirds, butterflies, lizards, dragonflies and birds checking out the new native plants and rocks, which is very exciting! All of us at Refugia Marin would like to thank the entire school community for being patient with the construction; we hope you've been able to enjoy watching the process unfold. Stay tuned for informational signage about the importance of creating habitat and biodiversity, earth-friendly gardening practices, and the myriad benefits of native plants and keystone species. In the meantime, mark your calendars for these upcoming events to introduce students to their school's new native habitat landscape:

Wednesday, 11/5/25 from 2:00-2:45: Habitat Landscape Tour and Scavenger Hunt

Wednesday, 11/19/25 from 2:00-2:45: "iNat with Cat" Introduction to iNaturalist

Wednesday, 12/10/25 from 2:00-2:45: Beginning Nature Journaling

GRADING AT HALL MIDDLE SCHOOL In case you missed it, please watch the short (8 minute) video on Grading at Hall Middle School in which Principal Dr. Toni Chavez and Assistant Principal Harrison Blatt discuss key aspects of our grading practices, including our grading philosophy, core principles, calculating and reporting final grades, viewing the Aeries gradebook, ways for parents and students to discuss grades, addressing questions or concerns, and more!

LOCK REPLACEMENT  Around this time of year, we see more locks getting lost. Please be aware that if a student's lock is lost or needs to be replaced, there will now be a $10.00 charge per lock. Students should go to the Attendance office to speak with Ms. Elizabeth if their lock needs attention.

CHROMEBOOK  Please remind your student to charge their Chromebook every night. If your child needs to borrow a Chromebook, they can get one from the office.  The office has a limited supply of loaners and every third loaner results in a detention.

    COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Terrace Metrics The Larkspur-Corte Madera School District is partnering with Terrace Metrics to provide a brief (10–15 minute) social-emotional wellness screener for students in grades 4–8. The screener helps the district understand students’ social-emotional strengths and needs and identifies students who may need additional support. Counselors and administrators will review results carefully and may contact parents if a child’s scores show significant concern.

Responses are confidential. Students do not enter personal information and only counselors and administrators can access results. Teachers do not see individual data.

The screener covers key areas of student well-being such as:

Hope, Resiliency, Global Satisfaction, and Positive School Experiences

Leadership, Grit, and Personal Standards (for older grades)

Anxiety, Depression, Self-Criticism, Ostracism, and Bullying (as risk indicators)

    Screening Schedule:

6th Grade: Week of November 3

7th Grade: Week of November 10

8th Grade: Week of November 17

Hall students will participate in the screener unless parents opt them out of it. Please see the email that was sent to you last week with more information about the screener and the link to opt out.

    PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

SPARK Participation Challenge Ends October 29!

As we head into the season of gratitude, I’m reminded every day how lucky we are to be part of this Hall community. Our students bring such joy and curiosity to learning, and our teachers work tirelessly to create meaningful, engaging experiences for them.

One of the ways we make that possible is through SPARK. The programs SPARK funds—Art, Music, Band, STEM, Social Justice, Wellness, and Counseling—add depth and balance to our school day, giving students opportunities to create, move, reflect, and connect. These programs also give teachers the time and support they need to focus on what they do best: inspiring young minds. And for our 5th–8th grade musicians, SPARK funding now provides instruments at no cost, ensuring that every student who wants to play can do so.

Every family’s participation matters. Whether you give a little or a lot, your support keeps these experiences alive for our kids—and that’s something to be truly grateful for. It takes all of us working together to reach SPARK’s $1.5 million goal and make these opportunities possible for every student in our district.

    Have a beautiful Sunday,
Dr. Toni Chavez & Hall Staff

    PTA NEWS

Please join Dr. Brett Geithman and a panel of LCMSD educators for a screening and discussion of the documentary film COUNTED OUT!

Tues, 11/4 6:00pm at The Lark Theater

     ➡️ FREE! REGISTER HERE

    Space is limited!

    Message from Dr. Geithman:

Counted Out is more than just a film -  it’s a powerful opportunity for our community to explore how access to quality math education, civic learning, and real-world problem solving shapes our children’s futures. Rooted in our district’s commitment to equity, this documentary connects directly to our Graduate Portrait, which envisions students as ethical, responsible contributors and real-world ready scholars.

It also reflects our approach to Cognitively Guided Instruction (CGI), where students engage in authentic problem solving with creativity, flexibility, and opportunity - low floor (access for all) and high ceiling (extension and depth).

At the heart of this conversation is a belief we share deeply: all students can be mathematicians. Together, we can challenge the narrative of being “counted out” and affirm that every child, with the right support, can develop confidence and competence in math.”

    Panel Discussion Immediately Following, featuring:

Katie Tobes, Hall 8th Grade Math Teacher

Beth Hawkins, District CGI Math Coach

Jen Repo, Neil Cummins 1st Grade Teacher

Hosted by Neil Cummins PTO, Cove, PTO and Hall PTA.

Immigration Resources - Safe and Inclusive Schools

    Dear LCMSD Families,

In January 2025, LCMSD reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining safe, inclusive, and welcoming schools for ALL students and families. Additionally, Governor Gavin Newsom signed the CA Safe Haven Schools and SAFE Acts into law in October 2025.

    LCMSD is dedicated to:

    • Protecting the rights and privacy of all students and families, regardless of their race, ethnicity, national origin, immigration status, religion, gender, gender identity, gender expression, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, or disability.

    • Ensuring that our schools remain safe spaces for learning, free from fear, discrimination, or harassment.

    • Following clear procedures should federal immigration authorities request access to our campuses.

Our district will not allow Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers on campus without prior legal authorization, and all staff have been informed of appropriate procedures if such a situation arises.

We understand that immigration-related concerns can be stressful for many families, and we want to ensure you have access to reliable information and support. Please see the resources below:

At LCMSD, we believe that every child and family belongs, and we will continue working to provide an environment where all students feel safe, valued, and supported.

If you have any questions or need additional support, please feel free to reach out to your school administrator, Daniel Norbutas, or me.

Thank you for your partnership in making our schools a welcoming place for all.

    Dr. Brett Geithman

    SCHOOL  NEWS

More information to follow, including sign-ups, what to expect, and rainy day plans. Questions? Check out our website at refugiamarin.org or our Instagram @refugia.marin

RETAKE PICTURE DAY is Oct 22nd Any student who was absent on the original picture day and students wanting a retake photo, mark your calendar!

If a parent or student is unhappy with their first picture they can return their package to the photographer on retake day (Oct 22). Dorian will reprint the same package with the retake day image at no additional cost. If only a digital download was ordered please provide the photographer with a printed copy of the receipt in lieu of a picture package. Dorian will also reprocess the digital order at no additional cost to the family.

    Have questions? Contact www.mydorian.com/support

YEARBOOK COVER CONTEST The Hall 2025-26 Yearbook Cover Contest is open!

Only one cover entry allowed per student.  Student artists MUST use the Dorian template that can be printed here or picked up from the office.

Cover entries are due back to the office at the end of day Monday, October 27th.

Before starting your artwork, please see full rules (found here)

We can't wait to see all of the entries from our Hall cougar artists!

LOST AND FOUND  We have an abundance of lost and found items again, please remind your student to reunite with their lost items. We will be putting the lost items out during recess and lunch on Thursday, Oct 23rd and any remaining items will be donated.

ATTENDANCE  if your child will be absent: email hallabsentee@lcmschools.org or call (415) 927-6956 by 8:30 am AND provide the reason for the absence.

CHROMEBOOK  Please remind your student to charge their Chromebook every night. If your child needs to borrow a Chromebook, they can get one from the office.  The office has a limited supply of loaners and every third loaner results in a detention.

    COUNSELOR’S CORNER

Attention 7th grade families friendly reminder to read the important message sent via ParentSquare on 10/16. Please email jlablue@lcmschools.org if you have questions or concerns.

Any sports equipment that is too large to fit in the student’s locker should be placed in the sports equipment cage, which is located next to the lost and found.

    LARKSPUR RECREATION

    Class: Dungeons & Dragons

Instructor: Kids' Choice Camps Staff Demian Vonder Kuhlen

    Time: Tuesday 3:15PM-5:45PM 10/28-12/9 No class 11/11

    Cost: $340/person for 6 classes

    Location: Larkspur Recreation Community Room

    https://larkspur.recdesk.com/Community/Program/Detail?programId=2288

Explore ancient ruins, discover strange magic, and incredible creatures. Get the dice out for this pencil and paper, collaborative game of adventure and imagination. Participants take the initiative to direct the story telling through the choices they make role playing their characters. Each game we create a unique story arc that follows our heroes as they become powerful forces of their realm.

This program is for all experience levels and is an excellent introduction to table top role playing games like Dungeons & Dragons.

What to Bring:  Bring a water bottle, and a snack if needed. We may take a break for participants to socialize, play outside, and have an opportunity to eat their snack.

AGE RANGE DISCLAIMER: This is a mixed age activity. Your child might be the only one their age in this group. This program's facilitators believe age diversity leads to healthy friendships and mentorships across the age range and reduces negative effects of social comparison and competition.  If you have concerns or questions about the age distribution of a particular group, please contact  nat.davis@carpentryforkids.net
